Overview
In order to better support educators using our Galaxy system, we've put together a collection of lesson plans to reinforce the student experience. All together, there are 60 plans, consisting of a pre launch and post launch lesson for each of the six planets, per grade first through fifth. Together, each pair of lessons takes around 20-40 minutes to complete, so they can supplement a whole class period, if needed. The content in Galaxy can stand on its own, but these lesson plans can help support the material and reinforce what students learn.
Finding the plans
All of the plans can be found in your admin portal. Go to the left-hand navigation pane, close to the bottom of the list, and click "Lesson Plans":
Here, you'll see the entire list broken out by grade level. You can download individual plans or the entire grade. As mentioned before, there are pre and post launch plans for each planet in every grade.
Breaking down the content
Each lesson plan is clearly laid out and broken down into sections. They list objectives, necessary materials, and the lesson plan breakdown. The content contains an introduction, activity, and conclusion. The activities are meant to be interactive and reinforce students' understanding the content they'll learn from, as well as to be adaptable. Because the lessons are broken up into pre and post launches, they're meant to surround a session inside the Galaxy system.
Not all of our partners use the lesson plans exactly as described, and instead adapt it into their own curriculum. Some only use one of the activities and others use both. The goal for these lesson plans is to supplement your curriculum and provide activities that fit the theme of career exploration. A session inside Galaxy generally takes about 10-15 minutes, so this is a great way to fill up the rest of the period.
