WBL Administrators: How to Create Opportunities

Learn how to create or upload work-based learning (WBL) opportunities as a WBL Administrator for your school district.

How to Create a New Opportunity

WBL Advisors have the ability to create opportunities for their students to participate in within their Kuder Navigator for Admins account.

When creating an opportunity, consider if students at other schools should have access to your opportunity! To customize who can see your opportunities, see Step 8.

  1. In the left-hand navigation menu, select Manage Work Based Learning Tools

  2. Select Opportunities

  3. Select Create Opportunity

  4. Basic Information - Complete Required Fields

    1. Opportunity Title

    2. Opportunity Type

    3. Opportunity Description

    4. Application Information

    5. Optional - Business Name (Must be an Existing Business)

    6. Select Continue

  5. Opportunity Details - Complete Required Fields

    1. Opportunity Primary Contact

      1. Contact First Name

      2. Contact Last Name

      3. Contact Email Address

      4. Contact Phone Number

    2. Opportunity Location

      1. Location Type

      2. Location Address (Only for Physical Location)

      3. Optional - Location Address 2 (Only for Physical Location)

      4. Location City (Only for Physical Location)

      5. Location State (Only for Physical Location)

      6. Location Zipcode (Only for Physical Location)

      7. Virtual Experience Link (Only for Virtual Location)

    3. Opportunity Details

      1. Does this Opportunity have a Grade Level Requirement? (Yes or No)

        1. If Yes, select available grades (6-12)

      2. Does this Opportunity have an age requirement? (Yes or No)

        1. If Yes, select minimum age (Starts at 14)

      3. Does this opportunity have a limited number of openings? (Yes or No)

        1. If Yes, select number of spots (Starts at 1)

      4. Opportunity Start Date

      5. Opportunity End Date

      6. Is there a deadline to apply for this opportunity? (Yes or No)

        1. If Yes, enter Application Start & End Date

    4. Select Continue

  6. Related Occupations - Complete Required Fields

    1. Search for a related occupation - Add up to 3 Related Occupations

      1. All available occupations can be found on ONET

    2. Select Continue

  7. Select Admin Access - Varies by your admin access level

    1. Partner-Level Admins

      1. When creating an opportunity, it becomes available for all WBL Administrators in Districts and Schools under that Partner. Those Admins will go to 'Opportunities' list and enable 'School Access' for the opportunity to let their Students see the opportunity.

    2. District-Level Admins

      1. School District Option: All WBL Administrators at every school in your district can see the opportunity, and students at all schools can see the opportunity.

      2. Individual Schools Option: All WBL Administrators at the selected school(s) can see the opportunity, and students at the selected school(s) can see the opportunity. If a school is excluded from this selection, it can not be added to the list of available schools later.

    3. Local-Level Admins

      1. School District Option: All WBL Administrators at every school in your district can see the opportunity, but only students at the schools you have access to can see it. WBL Admins at other schools can see your opportunity and make it available to their students by enabling 'School Access' on their opportunities list.

      2. Individual Schools Option: All WBL Administrators at the selected school(s) can see the opportunity, and students at the selected school(s) can see the opportunity. If a school is excluded from this selection, it can not be added to the list of available schools later.

  8. Select School Access

    1. Select all schools in the district needing the opportunity to be available for students to apply.

    2. Note: If Individual Schools is selected above and a school is excluded from this selection, it can not be added to the list of available schools after it has been saved.

  9. Select Create Opportunity, and you're done!

Note: If you want an opportunity to be visible to all WBL Admins, but don't want students at every school to be able to apply to it right away, choose 'School District' under 'Admin Access', then only select schools under 'School Access' where students should see the opportunity. It will allow those students to apply for the opportunity, but won't allow students at other schools to apply.

This way, a WBL Admin at another school can enable 'School Access' later on in their 'Opportunities List' if they want their students to see the opportunity.


How to Create Multiple Opportunities Using an Import

WBL Advisors have the ability to upload multiple opportunities at once for their students to participate in within their Kuder Navigator for Admins account.

Important Note: This feature allows for a max of 25 work-based learning opportunities to be uploaded at a time. Please use multiple uploads if you are needing to upload a number greater than 25.

  1. In the left-hand navigation menu, select Manage Work Based Learning Tools

  2. Select Opportunities

  3. Click the three dots in top right corner and select Upload Multiple Opportunities

  4. Select Download CSV Template

  5. Enter Required Fields for each opportunity (MAX 25 Opportunities)

      1. Column A - OpportunityTitle, Text, 100, Required

      2. Column B - OpportunityDescription, Text, 1000, Required

      3. Column C - ApplicationInformation, Text, 1000, Required

  6. Save File as a CSV

  7. Select Admin Access - Varies by your admin access level

    4. Click Next.

  8. Select Drag and drop or click to upload your CSV file

  9. Choose the File and Select Open

    1. If there are errors, download the error file and make the changes on your previous csv., then reupload the document.

  10. Review the Data in the Table

  11. Select Continue

  12. Complete required fields for each opportunity

    1. Grade Level

      1. Select all that apply 6-12

    2. Opportunity Type

    3. Related Occupations

      1. Select up to 3 related occupations

      2. All available occupations can be found on ONET

  13. Select Submit and you're done!

Standard Opportunity Type Definitions

Refer to each opportunity type for its definition. This applies only if your district or state does not utilize custom opportunity types.

  • Job Shadow

    • Involves partnering with an industry professional to observe and partake in their daily or weekly responsibilities. This opportunity allows students to picture themselves in the career and evaluate whether it aligns with their interests, skills, and work values.

  • Internship

    • A temporary position prioritizing on-the-job training. This allows individuals to gain skills and experience aligned to their career interests. Interns are often expected to actively partake in workplace duties related to specific career-related tasks.

  • Career Mentorship

    • An experienced professional provides individual with tailored guidance aligned to their desired position or career.

  • Project Based Learning

    • A course of study or experience involving practical field training, under supervision. This typically applies to a specific field or program of study.

  • Virtual Experience

    • An immersive program to allow individuals to perform industry tasks within a controlled environment. Commonly used for automotive and construction programs.

  • Service Learning

    • Integrates community service with classroom instruction and reflection for a specific project.

  • School Based Enterprise

    • Based within a school, a group of students produce goods or services to be donated or put for sale.

  • Volunteering

    • This unpaid experience involves contributing time and talents to benefit a cause or individual.

  • Externship

    • A structured approach to combining classroom concepts with hands-on work experience, often in the form of a class project for a local business.

  • Paid Work Experience (Employment FT & Employment PT)

    • Individuals can gain on-the-job training and growth through a part-time or full-time job.

  • Workplace Tours/Field Trip

    • A group trip to observe first-hand what a specific workplace and career may consist of while actively engaging with industry professionals.

  • Mock Interview

    • An informal interview or conversation between an industry professional and an individual seeking information related to entering or advancing in that career.

  • Apprenticeship

    • A program in which an individual learns an art, trade, or job under the supervision of a more experienced mentor.

  • Career Fair

    • An event in which industry professionals interact with individuals seeking to learn more about a given profession. Can include engaging activities, Q&A sessions, and skill-building workshops.

  • Guest Speaker

    • A guest speaker can be someone invited to speak on their expertise and experience in a career field.

  • Authentic Project

    • A project that includes anything from prototyping an invention to brainstorming ideas for a business; the projects are their own, and they have agency over the projects’ direction and decisions.

  • Other

    • Can be used for an opportunity that does not fit solely within the descriptions of the other types of work-based learning.
