WBL Administrators: How to Create Opportunities

Learn how to create or upload work-based learning (WBL) opportunities as a WBL Administrator for your school district.

How to Create a New Opportunity

WBL Advisors have the ability to create opportunities for their students to participate in within their Kuder Navigator for Admins account.

  1. In the left-hand navigation menu, select Manage Work Based Learning Tools

  2. Select Opportunities

  3. Select Create Opportunity

  4. Complete Required Fields - Basic Information

    1. Opportunity Title

    2. Opportunity Type

      1. Job Shadow

        1. Involves partnering with an industry professional to observe and partake in their daily or weekly responsibilities. This opportunity allows students to picture themselves in the career and evaluate whether it aligns with their interests, skills, and work values.

      2. Internship

        1. A temporary position prioritizing on-the-job training. This allows individuals to gain skills and experience aligned to their career interests. Interns are often expected to actively partake in workplace duties related to specific career-related tasks.

      3. Career Mentorship

        1. An experienced professional provides an individual with tailored guidance aligned to their desired position or career.

      4. Project Based Learning

        1. A course of study or experience involving practical field training, under supervision. This typically applies to a specific field or program of study.

      5. Virtual Experience

        1. An immersive program to allow individuals to perform industry tasks within a controlled environment. Commonly used for automotive and construction programs.

      6. Service Learning

        1. Integrates community service with classroom instruction and reflection for a specific project.

      7. School Based Enterprise

        1. Based within a school, a group of students produce goods or services to be donated or put for sale.

      8. Volunteering

        1. This unpaid experience involves contributing time and talents to benefit a cause or individual.

      9. Externship

        1. A structured approach to combining classroom concepts with hands-on work experience, often in the form of a class project for a local business.

      10. Paid Work Experience (Employment FT & Employment PT)

        1. Individuals can gain on-the-job training and growth through a part-time or full-time job.

      11. Workplace Tours/Field Trip

        1. A group trip to observe first-hand what a specific workplace and career may consist of while actively engaging with industry professionals.

      12. Mock Interview

        1. An informal interview or conversation between an industry professional and an individual seeking information related to entering or advancing in that career.

      13. Apprenticeship

        1. A program in which an individual learns an art, trade, or job under the supervision of a more experienced mentor.

      14. Career Fair

        1. An event in which industry professionals interact with individuals seeking to learn more about a given profession. Can include engaging activities, Q&A sessions, and skill-building workshops.

      15. Guest Speaker

        1. A guest speaker can be someone invited to speak on their expertise and experience in a career field.

      16. Authentic Project

        1. A project that includes prototyping an invention to brainstorming ideas for a business, the projects are their own, and they have agency over the projects’ direction and decisions.

      17. Other

        1. Can be used for an opportunity that does not fit solely within the descriptions of the other types of work-based learning.

  6. Complete Required Fields - Opportunity Details

    1. Opportunity Primary Contact

      1. Contact First Name

      2. Contact Last Name

      3. Contact Email Address

      4. Contact Phone Number

    2. Opportunity Location

      1. Location Type

      2. Location Address (Only for Physical Location)

      3. Optional - Location Address 2 (Only for Physical Location)

      4. Location City (Only for Physical Location)

      5. Location State (Only for Physical Location)

      6. Location Zipcode (Only for Physical Location)

      7. Virtual Experience Link (Only for Virtual Location)

    3. Opportunity Details

      1. Grade Level(s)

        1. 6-12 or All

      2. Opportunity Spots Available

      3. Opportunity Start Date

      4. Opportunity End Date

  7. Select Continue

  8. Complete Required Fields - Related Occupations

    1. Search for a related occupation - Add up to 3 Related Occupations

      1. All available occupations can be found on ONET

    2. Toggle Private Opportunity to Yes or No

      1. A private opportunity makes an opportunity only available for the students in the district in which it was created. A public opportunity can be seen and selected by a student in any district. If you set an opportunity to Public, it cannot be switched to Private later.

  9. Select Create Opportunity

Note: When a WBL Advisor creates an opportunity, it is automatically added to the available opportunities for students to request.


How to Create Multiple Opportunities Using an Import

WBL Advisors have the ability to upload multiple opportunities at once for their students to participate in within their Kuder Navigator for Admins account.

Important Note: This feature allows for a max of 25 work-based learning opportunities to be uploaded at a time. Please use multiple uploads if you are needing to upload a number greater than 25.

  1. In the left-hand navigation menu, select Manage Work Based Learning Tools

  2. Select Opportunities

  3. Select Upload Multiple Opportunities

  4. Select Download CSV Template

  5. Enter Required Fields for each opportunity (MAX 25 Opportunities)

    1. Column A - Opportunity Name

    2. Column B - Opportunity Description

    3. Column C - Application Instructions

    4. Column D - Sponsor First Name

    5. Column E - Sponsor Last Name

    6. Column F - Sponsor Email Address

    7. Column G - Sponsor Phone Number

    8. Column H - Location Address

    9. Column I - Optional - Location Address 2

    10. Column J - Location City

    11. Column K - Location State (Two Letter Abbreviation)

    12. Column L - Location ZipCode

    13. Column M - Optional - Virtual Experience Link

    14. Column N - Opportunity Spots Available

    15. Column O - Opportunity Start Date

    16. Column P - Opportunity End Date

  6. Save File as a CSV

  7. Select Drag and drop or click to upload your CSV file

  8. Choose the File and Select Open

  9. Review the Data in the Table

  10. Select Continue

  11. Complete required fields for each opportunity

      2. All available occupations can be found on ONET

    4. Toggle Private Opportunity to Yes or No

  12. Select Submit

Note: When a WBL Advisor uploads opportunities, they are automatically added to the available opportunities for students to request.
