Students: How to Use Common App

Common App is an additional feature in Kuder Navigator that allows students to apply to multiple schools with one application.

What is Common App?

An integration available for Kuder Navigator® with the third-party, Common App, that allows students to seamlessly apply to multiple universities, request recommenders and track progress of applications.


Steps to Connect Common App Account to Navigator Account

A student must first make the connection to their existing Common App account to begin the application process. If a student does not yet have an account they should create a new one when prompted in step 3.

  1. Log in to Kuder Navigator

  2. Select Plan for Education from the Left-Hand menu

  3. Select College Applications from the dropdown menu

  4. Click on Visit the Common App Website to make the account connection active.

    1. Login to an existing account or create a new account with Common App to authorize the connection between Common App and Navigator.

      1. Note: Once this step is complete, the student will be sent back to Navigator.

  5. Click on Visit the Common App Website to return to Common App's website to complete the following required steps:

    1. Complete Student Profile & Education Section under the Common App tab

      1. Submit the Fee Waiver in the Student Profile in the Common App tab

    2. Select College(s)

    3. Complete the Release Authorization for FERPA in the My Colleges tab

  6. Return to the Navigator Application

    1. Ensure that all required pieces are reflected in the Navigator Account

Important Note: Student cannot move forward until all required pieces are completed and synced with Kuder Navigator.


Select a Counselor and Request Teachers for Recommendations

After making all needing connections, students will need to select their counselor and request teachers to complete the needed counselor forms and number of recommendations needed for the schools that have been selected.

Important Note: The Counselor and Teachers must login to Navigator and set their role before a student can select them for either role.

  1. Log in to Kuder Navigator

  2. Select Plan for Education from the Left-Hand menu

  3. Select College Applications from the dropdown menu

  4. Add a Counselor

    1. Students can only add one counselor; however, they can replace them if the counselor has not completed any items.

  5. Add Teachers as Recommenders

    1. Teacher recommendations are made per university or college. Each university or college has a minimum and maximum number of recommendations required.

    2. Select the Subject as the teacher's profession.

Note: Students can invite teachers outside of their district within Common App's website. Login to Common App > Go to My Colleges > Recommenders & FERPA > Invite Recommenders. This will send an email to anyone outside of the district requesting them to complete a recommendation.


Complete College Decision

After making the decision on what college you will be attending, select the decision so your counselor knows where to send your final transcript.

  1. Log in to Kuder Navigator

  2. Select Plan for Education from the Left-Hand menu

  3. Select College Applications from the dropdown menu

  4. Select the pen icon in the Actions column next to a college request to update decision

  5. Complete Update Application information

    1. Decision (Attending, Not Attending, Undecided)

    2. ACT Sent (Yes, No, Not Required)

    3. SAT Sent (Yes, No, Not Required)

  6. Select Update Application
